Iowa Sports




Iowa has had thousands of players from all kinds of sports. Some have stuck out above the rest and left their mark on Iowa. Many of these players have changed Iowa sports.




Nile Kinnick

Nile Kinnick was a half back for the Iowa Hawkeyes Football team from 1936 to 1939. He would go on to win the Heismen in 1939 and a number of other awards. In 1939 Kinnick would go on to break 14 school records, 6 still remain today. Kinnick died in a training flight while serving the U.S. Air Force during WWII. His jersey (24) would be retired and his name is remembered at Kinnick Stadium.




Chris Street

Chris Street was a power forward for the Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball team, he played with the team from 1990 to 1993. Chris in his final season would average 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds a game. Chris would set the record for the most consecitive free throws made, 34. This record still stands today. He passed away in a car accident at the age of 20, only 15 games into his junior year. His legecy has left a mark on Iowa and coaches credited him as caring, honest, and loving, he lived every day to the fullest. On February 6th, 1993 his jersey (40) would be retired. Even though his carrer was short he is still looked up to as one of the greatest examples of Iowa sports




Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark was a point guard for the Iowa Hawkeyes Womans Basketball team from 2020 to 2024. During her time she became a 2-time AP Player of the Year, NCAA Division 1 all time leading scorer, and brought the team to the NCAA Championship twice. These achviments allowed her to be the 1st pick in the WNBA draft. She also became Times Athlete of the Year and will have her jersey number (22) retired on Febuary 2nd.




Dallas Clark

Dallas Clark was a tight end for the Iowa Hawkeyes Football team from 1999 to 2002. He earned the John Mackey award, First-Team All Big Ten, First-Team All American. Dallas would go in the first round to the Colts as the 24th pick in 2003. He paved the way for future tight ends at Iowa and also helped the team go undefeated for the first time in over 80 years.
